NAO is a 57 cm tall programmable humanoid robot. Its key components are as follows.
A body with 25 degrees of freedom (DOF), whose key components are motors and actuators.
A series of sensors: 2 cameras, 4 microphones, 1 ultrasonic distance sensor, 2 infrared transmitters and receivers, 1 inertial board, 9 tactile sensors and 8 pressure sensors.
Devices for self-expression: voice synthesizer, LED lights and 2 high-quality speakers.
One CPU (located in the head of the robot) running a Linux kernel and supporting a proprietary middleware (NAOqi) developed by ALDEBARAN.
A second CPU (located in the robot’s torso).
A 55-watt-hour battery that provides NAO with 1.5 hours or more of autonomy, depending on how it is used.
