9-Cylinder Star Engine SolidWorks
A star engine is a reciprocating internal combustion engine with cylinders arranged around a crankshaft. Before the advent of turbine engines, the majority of large aircraft engines used a star design.
In a star engine, the piston is connected to the crankshaft by a main connecting rod. The connecting rod to which the uppermost piston is attached is the main connecting rod. The connecting rods of the other pistons are called live-joint connecting rods, and they are attached to a ring in the center of the main connecting rod through a tapered hole.
